my little tressa turned three last month! time flies when you're having fun. we celebrated dorothy style with a trip to the merry ol' land of oz. tressa loves the wizard of oz (and is not afraid in the least of the movie, to our surprise, that she caught on at a holiday party last winter). she loves to pretend she is "darfy" and has a little stuffed doggie named toto, too. so she decided on a wizard of oz theme party. surprise, surprise, i had so much fun with this one :)
i started with some handmade invites because this dorothy had to be a blondie!
the party was originally supposed to be at the pool but the weather was not cooperating so we brought oz inside which actually allowed me to go crazy with the theme!
first and foremost, tressa's birthday present was a "real" dorothy costume. she was so happy!
we made a yellow brick road out of a couple of yellow oblong plastic table cloths. we drew a brick pattern with a sharpie. we taped it down at the entrance which led the kids into the party room entrance adorned with a rainbow of balloons and then the bubble machine and original wizard of oz soundtrack added to the effect.
here's the decorated table. rainbow fruit cups (strawberries, cheese cubes, pineapples, melon, blueberries, and red grapes) and then fruity cheerios for confetti.
for dessert came my favorite part. rainbow cupcakes! check these out. very easy to make actually. here is the tutorial i watched. and ofcourse i had to make some toppers (which i think can become a new craft addiction). so we have dorothy of course, her buddies the scarecrow, tinman and lion, and the beautiful good witch glinda! the cupcakes were a big hit! fun, fun, fun...
and hold up, i didn't forget about goodie bags or in this case goodie baskets. i made mini dorothy baskets lined with some light blue gingham fabric and filled with some appropriate treats. rainbow skittles and starbursts in a mini container from dorothy, mini bubbles from glinda, oz stickers from toto, a punchy balloon from the wizard and a lollipop from the lollipop kids.
i think fun was had by all. especially my little blonde darfy... happy 3rd birthday my rainbow.

Darfy- what a cute one she is! Lots of good ideas here-- love the fruit loop confetti especially!
When my daughter was in her "darfy" stage, her preschool decided to put on the Wizard of Oz as their holiday show. Unfortunately, everyone wanted to BE darfy. Solution? Everyone got to be darfy. All 11 of them! LOL
